The Boomerang Effect
Sisters Fruit Company is passionate about giving back to the community, we are
Sisters Fruit Company was honored to donate to The Beaverton Education Foundation's Camp Achieve program that prevents summer slide. To be able to hand deliver these chips and see their faces light up when they received a bag, was an awesome experience for us. It's important for the kids to retain information learned through the school year for an easy transition to the next grade, a healthy snack and full tummy helps the children concentrate on learning.
This organization brings young minds to the outdoors to explore, learn and make nature a part of their lives. We've enjoyed joining them on a few trips and even learned some new things ourselves! Did you know:
How do salmon know where their home is when they return from the ocean? And how far do they travel?
We think they can tell directions in the ocean by the earth's magnetic field acting like a compass. When they find the river they came from they start using smell to find their way back to their home stream. They build their "smell memory-bank" when they start migrating to the ocean as young fish.
Salmon travel the distance from their home stream to the ocean which can be hundreds of miles and they may travel in the ocean up to Alaska and far out to sea, some up to 1,000 miles.
Store to Door is an organization that we have had a lot of fun working with. A volunteer calls the customer for their order, they give us the list and we shop for Portland area seniors and people with disabilities then another volunteer delivers to their home. This is such a great help to people in need and it sure feels good to be able to help!
